There are also volatile organic compounds (VOC), which come in many varieties, such as alcohols, esters, ethers, ketones, mineral oils and so on. Like aromatic solvents, it will accompany the ink drying and volatilization, thus polluting the air. Another big problem with ink toxicity is pigments, such as heavy metals. Although most inks have reduced their heavy metal content, chrome yellow and chrome red are still used to make inks.
